iPhone 15 Pro will be equipped with game-changing periscope camera

The iPhone 15 series, which is highly anticipated, is set to bring about a groundbreaking change with a special feature that has been creating buzz. The talk of the town is the periscope camera that comes with the iPhone 15 Pro. Apple had added extra camera features in the iPhone 14 series, and now, we can expect new camera features in the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro, which is expected to be launched later this year. According to recent information, the iPhone 15 Pro, as well as the iPhone 16 Pro models in 2024, will likely come equipped with a periscope camera that has additional zooming capabilities.

The inclusion of this periscope camera is expected to significantly improve the iPhone 15 Pro’s camera, making it capable of zooming in without any blurring. We will provide a more detailed discussion of this feature.

Design

It’s rumored that Apple will change the Pro Max label to Ultra, resulting in the iPhone 15 Ultra instead of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to a Taiwanese research firm Trend Force, the iPhone 15 line-up will feature the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, as well as the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Max and iPhone 15 Ultra, all of which may include significant upgrades such as 8GB of RAM, up to 1TB of internal storage, and the periscope camera.

Apart from the name change, there are rumors that Apple may revamp the design of the iPhone 15 series and include a USB-C charging port, which has been mandated by the EU for all smartphones by 2024. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max/Ultra may also come equipped with Apple’s upcoming A17 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Max models may feature the current A16 Bionic chip.

Periscope Lens Camera

Apple is set to adopt a periscopic telephoto lens for their iPhones in 2023, as per analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo revealed that this year’s iPhone 15 series will feature a periscope telephoto lens camera, which uses a prism to reflect light to multiple internal lenses that enter the telephoto lens at a 90-degree angle. The light is then reflected by an angled mirror towards the camera’s image sensor, allowing for better optical zoom without blurriness. The periscope lens will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and Ultra, with plans to include it on the iPhone 16 Pro and Ultra in 2024.

While Apple may be late to adopt the new camera lens, Android flagships such as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Huawei, Vivo, and Xiaomi have already incorporated a periscope lens with up to 10x optical zoom. It will be interesting to see how Apple implements this new technology with enhanced optical zoom capabilities.

Korean businesses LG Innotek and Jahwa Electronics will reportedly supply 70% and 30%, respectively, of the components required to develop OIS actuators for the periscope lens on the iPhone 15 Pro. Both companies have previously collaborated with Samsung and Apple to develop actuators for zoom and telephoto modules.

Price

As you eagerly anticipate the new camera features, it’s important to keep in mind that the price tag will likely increase as well. This is due to the added cost of incorporating the periscope lens module, which will only be included in the larger sizes, making them more expensive.

According to a report from Technology Window via Weibo, Apple is expected to increase the price of the iPhone 15 Pro series this year, further widening the price gap with the iPhone 15 Plus and creating more market space. Additionally, a new leaker has estimated that there may be a $300 difference in price between the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max/Ultra models. Despite the potential price increase, the periscope camera will be a valuable addition for improved camera capabilities.
